The Future of Air Force PCS Moves in 2007-2008
Yes, the rumors are true. If you're in the Air Force and you are supposed to PCS (Move to a new duty station/assignment) this year, odds are you will not go anywhere.
Nothing has been announced, and most people I know are putting all of their move preparation (i.e. school enrollment, house hunting, etc) on hold because so little is known, but... the answer is now here.
There is NO money to PCS anyone this year, and possibly next. The shortfalls are mainly caused by poor planning, and because the bonus they are offering people to voluntarily leave the Air Force is coming out of the same pot, leaving nothing for actual PCS moves.
There will be some moves for extremely critical/vital positions, but some units will be left with zero personnel due to the lack of personnel moving from base to base.
So, if you're in the Air Force and you are supposed to move this summer, don't count on it.

Hmmmm...sounds like a tough decision. I hope it works out for you, whichever way you decide to go.
3:12 PMthat is a tuffy. If Hillary becomes President, I'd say eject or you'll be riding the big one in like Slim Pickens.
4:25 PMYes, this one directly affects us.
When I found out, I was caught between horrified gasps of dismay at what must obviously be the worst budget officer in the history of accounting and unsurprised, "oh, so THIS is where it hit this time".
And I'll bet you that whomever is responsible will get a DP and an applause soundtracked OPR for "innovatively working to save the Air Force millions of PCS dollars a year".
The actual letter that went to my boss stated that this is really due to a lack of policy. Since there was nothing to provide checks and balances to the PCS process, it's basically bankrupt this year, and possibly next.
On an even worse note, looks like they're sending me LA. I might be one of the few who actually PCS because I've been here at this base for too long. Any longer and it'll hurt my chances for a career.
Not sure how they'll pay for it, but the email did come this week.
Now it's decision time. Do I stay or do I go... out of the AF. I really want to stay, I just wish they'd throw me a bone. I don't see it happening any time soon.
Better get my resume going.
What I don't get is that my favorite NCO who is still in EUCOM awaiting his DEROS put in for an extension (the devil you know versus the one you don't) and it was DENIED. So with the fact of his and my AFSC going away, he'll have to PCS in Sept, figure out when/where/how cross-training, cross-train then PCS again. Of course, if we can't PCS? Hmmmmm. I don't see HOW.
Did I tell you that we spent three million trying to get the Installation Excellence Award that rewards one million? Of course, I am exaggerating *yea yea.* PSHAAA. Yeah, the money's tight. Can I print you another poster, Sir? This blue isn't BLUE enough. CHA-CHING. It's fucking ridiculous how much money is wasted every day -- like IG complaint wasted.
When you say 'LA' do you mean Los Angeles, Lower Alabama or Lhasa Apso?
I am so glad that I am retiring this year...the chaos of AF life and policy changes just seem to happen too often, too fast nowadays. You young pups - be strong!
