Happy Birthday Matt !!!!!!!!!!!
My Step-son Matthew is 18 today. Legally a man. Oh crap, that's a scary thought. I've known him since was 11 years old. He hass certainly come a long way, and I couldn't be any more proud.
Here's what I included in his Birthday card. You'll know what it means if you've seen the movie 'Superbad.'
I woke him up this morning and told him to go register for the Selective Service. You're not officially a man until you do that, or so I thought. His response was, 'What's Selective Service?' What has happened to our youth? I guess they don't have Selective Service commercials anymore. There's so much about life I never told him about because I assumed he would learn them from the same commercials I learned everything from. I told him you need to register if you want any student loans or grants, which he really really wants, so he's on his way to the Post Office.
Anyway, have fun tonight, but not too much fun!
Hey Matt, some dude out in the Red Zone wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday.
Or as my fatherhood mentor and childhood hero would say....

Happy B-day to Matt!!
Isn't it amazing how fast things go?
My oldest is preparing to turn 9 and I have to say...it's freaking me out a wee bit!
Happy Birthday, Matt Dude! You may be a man, but you still have to wait three more years to drink a legal beer. But that's okay. It's not that big a deal, anyway.
Toni, I was twenty-one before I registered with the selective service because I joined the Navy at seventeen. And, yes, I did drink a beer or two or twenty.
I still find it odd how our society treats alcohol. Look at Britain, Italy, and most of Europe. Totally different view.
Of course I'm trying to get Matt to join a monestary, where he'll never have to worry about something like that.
I wish.
Happy Birthday, Matt!!!!
And come on, T. You know you are NOT trying to send him to a monastery!
Happy Birthday, Matt!! Eighteen is a biggie (best I can remember).
You're freaked, Melinda? My oldest just turned 49... Better watch that 9-yr-old - will be 49 before you can turn around.
I have always believed that if you have a "green card" for an id you should be able to drink a beer.
The troops can kill a man and even get a medal for it, but he/she cannot drink a beer with his/her fellow troops - legally. I mean, we wouldn’t want to corrupt them.
Something has changed with my blog, too. Now, for some reason, they are asking me to log in to blogger. Why! I'm already logged in as coffeypot. Now I have to do it as Anonymous because it doesn't recognize my password. What gives?
