The NBC Concert for Katrina Relief.... HA!

Just a quick note on Mike Meyers and Kanye West's monologue during the NBC Concert to raise money for the Red Cross tonight.

Most pathetic moment: Kanye West, "They're coming down to shoot us," and "George Bush doesn't care about Black People."

Funniest moment: Mike Meyers, speechless, and turning to look at Kanye after he said George Bush doesn't care about Black People. He just couldn't say a single word.

Almost as funny a moment: The camera catching Mike Meyers' speechless gaze, cutting Kanye West off in mid-sentence, and then panning to Chris Tucker who ran in front of a refrigerator behind stage to cover for Kanye West's lapse of sanity. Chris went on to tell the viewers to, "Send trucks of water." He was obviously improvising and forgot that they weren't asking for trucks of water... they were asking for donations to the Red Cross.

Almost missed this one: Matt Lauer's final speech for the night covered Kanye West's 'emotional' outburst by saying that disasters such as Katrina are a catalyst for inspiration, as well as criticism, "such as you may have heard tonight." Good save Matt, good save.

Priceless... yet pathetic. Mr. West was too 'emotional' to understand that he probably lost more money for the effort by pissing off thousands of potential donors who might have disagreed with his 'George Bush is a racist' speech.

Either way, please ignore the intellectually superior entertainers like Kanye West and do what's right, help your fellow Americans in need. (Red Cross)

Oh, and don't forget that George Bush hates black people.

Mauser*girl, a huge thanks to you. It was actually very helpful, and the advice will be appropriately utilized.

Dave, thanks for the top cover. MG is the blogosphere's 'princess of protection', so I know her advice is good.

innocent refugees are being shot and killed. national guardsmen trained for disasters such as this are instead dying in another country. government funding for the now broken levies has gone to this nasty war instead.New Orleans is still one of the most segregated cities in the U.S. Bush killed more Black people as Governer of Texas than any other modern post slavery political figure. West was emotional as we all should be.

"Innocent Refugees are being shot and killed?" Oh, you mean by their fellow refugees. Yes, absolutely horrible, and we need to stop it at once.

Sorry to break it to you, but National Guardsmen are not trained for natural disasters. They're soldiers, they shoot guns and blow things up just like the rest of us military folks. The only difference is that they do it part time at home.

"Government funding for the now broken levies has gone to this nasty war instead." Are you saying that the war in Iraq has been going on since the 1960s, when local folks said they needed funding for levee construction? Oh that's right, Bush took funds back when he was in college.

Still waiting for something other than an emotional and untrue response.

National Guardsmen are trained to do other things than help the regular soldiers fight wars. Their secondary function is to assist the governor in any domestic emergencies like natural disasters.

The levys were known to be a problem since the 60's but THIS ADMINISTRATION was urged repeatedly to lend some funding to the situation but Bush cut funding to programs that would benefit that area. Just like he cut funding for a lot of things.

Don't make excuses for him, we all know the war on Iraq and the occupation has drained our resources while conditions such as the economy and education and domestic issues suffer back home. The current disaster is a painful reminder of this country's misspending sprees.

Besides, FIMA or whatever became part of the Homeland Security department recently so it's a federal operation now. So if Federal funds mostly go overseas...well it's not to hard to see Louisiana got screwed by mother nature and now it's screwed by slow aid from the federal government.

Best we can do as Americans is donate to the Red Cross and pray.

Hmmmm, so much blame to go around & yet, I'm constantly surprised at how LITTLE attention we all paid in our government school civics classes...

America is a country of INDIVIDUALS who are supposed to be self-reliant & in cases where that is not possible, we should lend a hand to our neighbors. In an area where disaster could strike, having 3 days of provisions on hand is advisable. And, ANYONE who sits around waiting on the government to save their lives simply because their check from said gov't seems to always arrive on time might do better to remember the following:

America is also a system in which the LOCAL government is initially responsible for the citizens in its municipality. If there were a disaster plan in NO, it needed to be enacted. The site of those hundreds of school buses up to their wheel wheels in water, parked 1.2 miles from the Superdome makes me SICK.

If the local gov't needs assistance it calls on the state gov't. The ineptitude of the state gov't (having the FEDERAL gov't call to help & being told to "wait") is glaring and shouldn't go unquestioned.

The federal gov't responded in 24 hours or being asked & the response was stepped up greatly when the levee broke & caused even more destruction.

What happened in the south is a tragedy. The fact that people similarly devastated in other LA parishes, MS and AL are not receiving attention/coverage because of the debacle that is New Orleans is telling.

El Captain what are you talking about. National Guards have two main duties. To assist in war with the Marines and to assist with the natural disasters. Next, these people are Americans and not refugees. Also, if you didn't have food or and if you had to wear the same clothes that was soaked in waste, dirt and fuel you would try to find the necessasary items that you need to survive. If you didn't go crazy before hand. Kanye was very upset as most of us are, however, he is not that far off. I can't say that Bush hates blacks but if color wasn't an issue class was. If it had been Beverly Hills, help would have been there day one because of the money, class and the number of republicans in that location. I do not completely blame Bush but the media who have labeled these poor people as refugees and the blacks and hispanic as looters and white people as finding items on store shelves. This is sorry situation and sad that people are still being racist at this very moment. 911 was a very sad and horrific event but help was there day one. There is no reason these people had to go this long without water, food and shelter. And sadly, had to be confined with crazy people of all color. Hundreds could have been saved.

I think this will be a learning experience for us all. I suggest that people always keep an emergency kit for natural and terriost disasters. There is a list of information and items that should be keep on hand including cash if you go to www.redcross.org and www.fema.gov. Be prepared and not scared. Rely on yourself and not the government or you may see yourself dealing with simular situations as those in New Orleans.

Well, all I can say is that I used to like Kanye. And Celine Dion or whatever the hell her name is...I'm not sure which crap she was smoking.

It all comes down to this point: that no one can ever truly prepare for a natural disaster. Plain and simple. People can blame all damn day long. Not going to change much. I'm sick of hearing it already.
