All Happening Too Fast...
Sir/Ma'am,
The CY07A Major Central Selection Board (CSB) is scheduled to convene on 10 Sep 07 at AFPC. If you are receiving this email, you are in fact, eligible.
Basically, I'm up for Major. If I'm lucky enough to get selected at this board, I'll most likely be pinning on some time in the Spring/Summer of 2008. It's a mixed blessing. I've been so close to getting out so many times, but now I'm trying to stay in for 20 years. This will set my decision in stone.
Not to mention I'll no longer be eligible for the honorable and esteemed title, 'El Capitan'. 'El Mejor' just doesn't cut it, and 'Major Pain' has already been taken. Maybe Major Ass? It's what my older brother used to call me? I dunno. Any ideas?
**Update** Tumbleweed was kind enough to remind me of the name of the Major in the movie Spaceballs. It's a close second, although I'm not sure what's in first.
Wikipedia has a good history on the rank. The Italian version 'Maggiore' is a little better than the Spanish 'Mejor', but still too feminine.
Came across a 'Major Gunns' from the WCW.
Major Major Major Major is a character in Joseph Heller's classic novel Catch-22.
Captain-major is the English rendering of the Portuguese title Capitão-mor for colonial officers, put in charge of a capitania, Portuguese possession (called captaincy, after his title) deemed not (yet) important enough to have its own colonial Governor.
Links to ranks equivalent to Major by country. Now this is what I was looking for!!!! Who could pass up Sojwa, Bojnik, or Binbasi?
Commandant (France)
Commandant (Ireland)
Sojwa (North Korea)
Soryong (South Korea)
Bojnik (Croatia)
Sturmbannführer (Nazi Germany)
Tagmatarkhis (Greece)
Binbaşı (Turkey)
Comandante (Spain)
Remember, there's only one Major Pain. You got that scumbag El Crapitan?!

Remember the Major from Spaceballs? Just a suggestion, good luck old buddy!
Tumbleweed
Good luck, dude...although now I am very concerned as to what I will call you if you are promoted to Major. I was always a big fan of "Cap"
8:14 PMA Majorly Good Luck Wish to you, EC! I'll have to think a bit on a Majorly name... We have a car lot here in town called "Major Motors", but I don't think that'll do the trick. ;)
8:53 PMKudos -- I'd wager that your odds are pretty darn good. When I was up for Major a few years ago, even thought the selection rate for my Corps somewhere between 85-90%, I was still a bit nervous about it!
9:59 PMGood job and good luck, Capi!!!
I have known some funny Major 'names'....
Major Stank
Major Dick
Major Blow
I'm sure that whatever you choose, it'll be cool....
OH! Missed this one...
Congratulations!
As a follow up to Allicadem's comment:
We had a Major in my TAC Fighter Wing back in the day who did the functional checkflights after a bird got grounded. We (...no joke...) openly called him Major Disaster. We called his crew chief (..behind his back...) Airman #@$* for brains.
Something to think about.
